I only just picked it up again, and it was It was interesting to read about the Blitz, and later the Doodlebugs, from her perspective, and although I have heard many stories from my parents’ experience I learned quite a lot too.
Very little talk of rationing or the difficulties of living out the Blitz, but as a young girl with inhlaterra first job living in a boarding house, she might have been less affected than those who had to do their own shopping, cooking etc.
Now Anna is in London.

What I noticed in this book is that Judith Kerr tailored her writing style, the level of sophistication in diction, and character development to her target audience most likely the same age as the main character. Not as light as Vol1 but still a fast, pleasant read.
The reason for this being that Anna was considerably older and, therefore, more aware of what was going on around her and the seriousness of the situation. I don’t know how Anna could ever fall for such an old, awful person. I think the class could get involved in some interesting exercises.
Highlights the difficulties faced at that time by German Jew immigrants as Hitler prepares to invade Britain. This book takes place few years after the first book has ended, effectively moves the main character, Anna, from one age bracket into the next. Kudos to Kerr as a writer! The best thing about Bombs on Aunt Dainty is the main character, Anna. Honest to the times, to the place, and to human experience.

Anna herself is still officially an “enemy alien”. There’s a scene where he goes to a Mozart concert with Batallla, and he starts silently crying “I’m sorry if I alarmed you,” he said at last. It was amazing the way she made the best out of everything for her family. But there’s also a darkness to this book, in direct contradiction to the idealism present in When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit.
Bombs on Aunt Dainty follows a teenager called Anna. But the thing that really made him grew on me as a character was his love for his ee, who suffered mentally after being released from a concentration camp. From things I’ve read, it sounds like most of the story is rel I couldn’t stop at ,a two of Judith Kerr’s books; I had to learn about the author herself. Anna is now ibglaterra London, war is hitting home, and she is growing up.
There are uudith details that made me stop and shiver. Also, Anna seemed really immature for her age. If I could meet an author, it would be this woman who has accomplished so much in life. The changing relationship between Anna and her parents is explored sensitively and poignantly and indeed painfully. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. If you do not know Kerr’s work, her elegant, beautiful, and heartfelt work, then now is the time to become acquainted.
There are no discussion topics on this book yet. I’m sure you will learn so much and admire her as I do if you read the whole trilogy called “Out of the Hitler Time. He’s about 40, and she’s 18 for crying out loud! But Anna’s parents never really came to terms with inglatetra awful upheaval in their lives and right now there are millions of Papas and Mamas trying to feed their children, get any job possible, unable to believe that there’s a world that is safe.
However, despite the grim backdrop of war, there are plenty of uplifting moments too. It’s a fictionalized account of her fleeing from Germany at the start of World War II and it was terrifying and fascinating and something I read repeatedly – I still have my original copy.
They travelled first to Switzerland and then on into France, before finally settling in Britain, where Kerr has lived ever since. Overall, this is my favorite installment of the trilogy. She subsequently became a naturalised British citizen.
I know almost all of the places she mentions, but in a later incarnation.
Judith Kerr is one of these authors. Never has this been better expressed.

That is the British understatement. This often happens when a book originally published in the UK is released in the US less often the other way around because the publishers sometimes think a certain title will have more appeal to the American public.
Perhaps, though, since Anna seems to have no real friends, she simply found self-isolation a way of not having to deal with all that. Though the characters were super self absorbed and the romance was terrible, it is an excellent book on living through WWII 4 Stars.
