All would have proceeded smoothly–if it weren’t for the maddening interference of Darius, the arrogant Earl of Southwaite, who has been her father’s “silent partner” and now shares ownership of Fairbourne’s. We are promised a strong and intelligent heroine.
So she and her friend concoct a mkss, hiring a handsome and charming front man who will do her bidding Born to Be Wilde. Her father’s partner tried to stop her, but their conflict hknter up bringing them closer together, and eventually both had to make some compromises and sacrifices in order to be able to be with each other. The auction house, however, is no longer owned solely by the Fairbourne family.

That was certainly true. Of course, she is not addlepated enough to do this openly and scare away her wealthy collectors. Her judgement left much to be desired, however. The romance itself also unfolds slowly, letting have the time for the funny burnings of one to another, to get to know each other and to fall in love.

She had appeared ready to kill him, she was so irate.
I had the literary version of that experience with Ms. For some reason a lot of sentences finished the same way, and once I noticed it I started becoming annoyed! He had roared in like a lion and bleated out like a lamb. And the smugglers now expect her to take up where Daddy left off. The love story proceeds slowly and indistinctly. There was also a desk where she now sat.
Indeed, their private moments were outstanding and a large part of what pushed this above the three-stars the attachment to Darius alone would have warranted. The story unfolds slowly, introducing new characters, that I suppose, will be the new heroes and heroines of the coming series, once this is the first book of the Fairbourne Quartet.

Sep 05, Emanuellen Trizi rated it liked it. Then again, she never really felt like she had a good handle on her plan for the auction house either, so can I really say that I was surprised by how she handled it?
I did not enjoy the ending very much, though. You have quite stolen my heart, however, and I have dreamed for many months that one day you might be mine. Predictable plotline since you are almost percent sure how the story is going to end up but still an entertaining read.

A note about Steamy: For those who already knows Madeline Hunter, nothing new. I read this a while ago, and I can actually remember the fact that I found it boring. He found himself noticing huntdr in detail that his perceptions had absorbed in only a fleeting way before. Darius is all of that and honorable to boot. And I found even then that I would have liked to smack the Miss Fairbourne a few times for her stupidness.
But Emma has other ideas. This is going to sound like a backhanded compliment and I don’t mean it that way at all, but — I love how Hunter’s characters say bland nothings surernder one another and the nothing they say mean everything through a small incline of the head or short pause. I understand that’s how women were raised in that time, but it wasn’t that she was weak-willed or spineless.
Unfortunately, I do not think we will be a good match at all. Your father left you a business here. I really did not enjoy this book a whiff.
He exerted some effort to piece together his normal self. Fairvourne imagined the hours it must take him each day to put himself together with such precision. Even though the earl does not approve of her, Emma finds herself succumbing to his smile with tingles all over her body.
The class distinctions between Darius, an earl, and Emma, a woman from a family in trade, are portrayed credibly. In short, you are on the surrenddr for a reason; several, in fact.
I refuse to go back to the book to find specific quotes – but descriptions of the hero were about his being “Frighteningly masculine” frighteningly??
