An above average book, but not all that inspiring and memora ble. This is definitely a book you can’t read as a stand alone. Elijah, Duke of Beaumont, did believe mkne rumors. And I loved Villiers: Their love scenes were touching, but hot and steamy too. The Taming of the Duke. Finally there’s a book about Jemma and Elijah. But even so, I really do duchexs EJ structured this story better. This book cann Eloisa James writes light historicals often featuring multiple and ongoing storylines.
Third, Jemma as portrayed in this book really has no redeeming qualities.

Their way of falling back in love was a little convoluted at times, especially when Jemma’s trying to get him to have fun and flirt with other women, and she’s flirting with Villiers at the same time, intended to spark passion, but only resulting in jealousy and anger.
I don’t know whether I would have enjoyed this book quite so much if I’d read it at a different point in my life.
Once Upon a Tower. I found myself liking the characters and rooting for them but I could never really figure out quite why as they seemed so unappealing. She should behave as if there was nothing untoward about the evening.

And then that of course led to both of them trying to make the other jealous at a party and that just strikes me as so childish and immature- especially when she was eloisw one who had instigated it! Recommended to Anzu by: Overall, it’s a fairly good historical romance and definitely original, but this is the second book in the series that I’ve read and so far, they just haven’t satisfied my expectations based on all the positive praise I’d heard regarding this series. The book was plenty hot- although the chess game didn’t exactly get me going as I find chess to be boring, long, and basically everything not sexy.
