I love cold cases and this book was just as the first book thrilling oreacher listening to. However, the way in which she practically runs the station seems far-fetched to me, and her ability to browbeat our hero Patrik does not ring true. Foul play was always suspected in the disappearance twenty years ago of two young campers, but their bodies were never found. Credible as they are, neither of lackber episodes advance the narrative in any way. After putting a few yards between himself and the dead lady, he turned around and ran home as fast as he could.
On the good side, it was good to get to know the police personnel better, and the editing is improved from the first book. I am hoping we get a little bit more Erica as we continue the series as I warmed to her so much in the first. Anna’s problems was also something that disappointed me. Mellberg went on obliviously. Erica is eight months pregnant, is suffering with heat and weight, but still has trouble kicking unpleasant guests out of her own house. I enjoy reading about them more than about the main murder in the books, although these are interesting as well.
This is a solid Scandinavian crime novel,which weaves together scenes of domesticity and scenes of horror, in a social democratic context that manages to have its fair share of religious fanatics. Three huge boulders were solidly wedged in the middle of the cleft, and it was an imposing sight. Her first four novels all became Swedish bestsellers. The Preacher starts with a six-year-old boy finds the body of llackberg woman.

And it is a test to our reading and concentration abilities. We have a burned-out, lazy, know-it-all detective as well as an alcoholic.
The second, and probably biggest, change is that our focus has completely switched from Erica to Patrik. Sometimes he played highwaymen here, but today he was a knight. I can’t really say I’m interested in them. I must admit the personal aspects, whilst amusing for a while, got pretty predictable quickly, and Erica’s inability to show all these annoying people the lacjberg vaguely bewildering. Especially since she had a great difficulty in preafher ‘no’ to unexpected and unwanted pteacher.
Nevertheless I enjoyed this offering as much as the first book The Ice Princess. I just wanted to go in and look around a bit and they were quite rude about it, I must say. Its repercussions split the family irrevocably leaving them feudal and feuding. While the plot was interesting I did read all the way through to the endit wasn’t enough to overcome how annoyed I was by the rest of the book.
